Paul Kim Chan (Founder)
BA, Member of Electrical Electronics Engineers. A tragedy inspired Paul to make a positive change. While studying creative technology at AUT, he decided to address the issue that led to his friend's tragic death. The emergency call centre couldn't locate the residential address, which resulted in a fatal delay. Paul partnered with Professor Peter Chong to build a prototype that used lighting as a solution. Despite dropping out of his degree program and using his family's financial resources, Paul continued to develop his concept into a commercial product. Callaghan Innovation provided R&D funding for the project in 2020, and the technology has since received IP patents, undergone successful commercial testing, and demonstrated potential as a world-first technology for indoor space safety. Paul's commitment to developing this safety measure is admirable, and it's compelling to consider its potential impact on emergency response times and to keep people safe.
